Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy

Chiropractic manipulation restores joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation – or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues – restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique

This is the logo for Active Release Therapy.

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system / movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

Graston Technique

This is the logo for the Graston Technique.

The Graston Technique® incorporates an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization.  This enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

The Technique:

  • Separates and breaks down collagen cross-links, and splays and stretches connective tissue and muscle fibers
  • Increases skin temperature
  • Facilitates reflex changes in the chronic muscle holding pattern
  • Alters spinal reflex activity (facilitated segment)
  • Increases the rate and amount of blood flow to and from the area
  • Increases cellular activity in the region, including fibroblasts and mast cells
  • Increases histamine response secondary to mast cell activity

Kinesiotape Method

Kinesio Taping Method

The Kinesio Taping® Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique.  It is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints, without restricting the body’s range of motion, and providing extended soft tissue manipulation.  This helps to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions. The Kinesio® Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering support, but also rehabilitating the affected condition as well. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin, thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

Kinesio Tape is used to:

  • Re-educate the neuromuscular system
  • Reduce pain
  • Optimize performance
  • Prevent injury
  • Promote improved circulation and healing

Active Rehabilitative Therapy

Active Rehabilitative Therapy: Active rehabilitative therapy helps restore the use of muscles, joints, and the nervous system through the use of specific exercises and stretches prescribed to each patient, and is tailored based on their individual needs. It seeks to relieve pain, improve strength and mobility, and train the patient to perform normal daily activities. It also gives more autonomy to each patient, by teaching what they can do on their own time to help facilitate the healing process.

Nutrition

Nutritional Counseling

Nutritional Counseling: Maintaining a healthy weight is generally an excellent way to prevent many diseases and discomforts. For healthy individuals, a healthy weight will decrease unnecessary compression and wear and tear of weight bearing joints. Proper joint health will prevent postural abnormalities, mitigate pain, and promote an active lifestyle, thereby decreasing stiff and/or weak muscles.

We can provide personal nutritional coaching in the office.

IDN (integrative dry needling) Therapy

IDN (integrative dry needling) is a specific form of DN. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles.

Integrative Dry Needling is based on neuroanatomy and scientific study of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. A very fine filament needle is inserted through the skin and into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to your pain. The needle creates a micro lesion in the unhealthy tissues. The lesion helps increase blood flow to the unhealthy and shortened tissues, inhibiting a reflex arc from the nervous system to the tissue, which normalizes the body’s inflammatory response. The effect of this process provides an environment that enhances the bodies ability to heal and reduce pain.
